Mari, Nuke and Ocula from The Foundry brought into the light at SIGGRAPH

On the last day of SIGGRAPH, The Foundry revealed announced a new release of some of its collection of tools for modern film production and post workflow.

Mari has now been rereleased as a full version, v1.0. Having been developed during Weta's time leading up thru to Avatar, Mari works well in massively complex setups, under the duress of tracking huge amounts of detail. Crews at Framestore and Double Negative have worked with the application during development and are excited to see this come of age.

MARI is currently available on Linux. The team are working hard on a windows build which will be released later this year. In addition, The Foundry announced an exclusive deal with Walt Disney Animation Studios last week providing access to their Paint 3D technology with a view to incorporating elements into MARI.

The new release of Ocula, version 2.1 is now shipping. Ocula addresses common problems experienced with stereoscopic imagery in post production. This plug-in tool is the work of The Foundry's SCITECH Award winning R&D team, after working on the high-end projects like 'Avatar'.

Also Nuke 6.1 and NukeX 6.1 are shipping, with many tools designed for streamlining matting. 3D snapping and selection is possible, with extensions available in Python code. FBX export is available, all in stereo.
Access to the full 3D transformation matrix is now available on 3D operators. This allows the artist to set the 3D transformation matrix via an expression, through python or via the UI.

Nuke 6.1 now supports the latest version of the RED codec for newer R3D cameras using Mysterium. Rotoscope work has become easier with Nuke's 'roto-only' node. The NukeX camera tracker has been improved with an enhanced stereo solver.  More information is available on The Foundry web site, and in many cases through the mouths of those lucky techs who have already used them.
